1 Sep 2007 - September Newsletter
Dear Parent(s),
Newsletter ? September 2007
May I welcome you all back to a new school year. I would particularly like to welcome the parents of children joining our Reception class this year. I hope that this will be the beginning of a long and fruitful relationship. I would like to welcome Miss Rawlins-Smith to the school. I am confident that she will prove an extremely positive addition to the staff. Last year was, I believe a successful year. On the sporting front the school Athletics team won the Area District Sports, the Girls? Cross-Country team won the area event, with the boys? team coming third and the boys? football team won their league. In addition teams from the school won cricket and rounders competitions. Academically children in Year 2 achieved above the national average in all areas whilst in the Key Stage Two SATs results showed a slight improvement even on 2005/06, with 100% achieving level 4+ in English and Science and 93% in Maths, (level 4 being the national expected level). 89% achieved level 5 in English, 82% in Science and 75% in Maths. There were numerous other successes last year but we now must look to 2007/08 and ensure that we build on these. This year?s School Improvement Plan focuses on the Every Child Matters Agenda with an emphasis on staying safe, achieving and healthy lifestyles. I will forward more details in October?s Newsletter plus include an opportunity for you to contribute your ideas and thoughts. The aim is to assure you that as a school we are constantly striving to improve.
Please find attached a Fair Processing Notice which I am obliged to forward to everyone at the beginning of the school year. May I also add that on occasions we do ask for parents to volunteer to take children by car to different events. If you would be prepared to help I would suggest that you contact your insurance company to check your cover. It is usually free to extend your cover but please contact the school if there is a problem.
This year we are supporting the Tear Fund Charity. Apparently every £100 donated enables 10 grain sacks to be provided. I understand that further details for our Harvest Festival will be forwarded as appropriate. I understand that Tesco has again started their scheme, ?Sports Vouchers for Schools?. We are always very grateful for any vouchers donated. Apparently we are also coming to the end of the Tesco Vouchers for computers campaign. Again we would be very grateful for any contribution of vouchers. Thank you for all computer vouchers collected so far. We have managed to buy two new computers. Any additional vouchers will be carried over to next time.
I would like to inform you of the change in the way we have asked the children to line up. I do appreciate you may have missed waving to the children as they enter the school but we have arranged the different classes to line up in a way which allows them to enter the school more safely. May I also remind you about our uniform policy. I do feel that compliance with the policy is a way of children, parents and staff showing pride in attending Whitchurch. I have to say that I feel privileged to work here and I want to share that sense of pride with everyone associated with the school. I would, therefore, be grateful for your continued support. Also if your child is not being collected by a parent/childminder can you please put a note in your child?s book bag or phone the school to let us know about alternative arrangements.
As mentioned in the July Newsletter, Mrs. Coe and Mrs Vallance are organising a Charity Ball in aid of The Haemophilia Society and Juvenile Diabetes. This will be held on 27th October 2007 and the cost will be approximately £40 per ticket, which will include a three course meal and champagne reception. Enquiries about tickets or sponsorship for this event contact either Mrs Coe (Myles and Jim?s mum) or Mrs Vallance (Jake Weighell?s mum). Please see attached flyer.
