1 Feb 2007 - February Newsletter

Dear Parent(s),

Newsletter - February 2007

Firstly may I thank you all for your support and understanding on Thursday 8th and Friday 9th February when, due to adverse weather conditions, we had to close the school. One or two parents were unhappy and I do understand that, but at the end of the day I will make whatever decision I feel appropriate in the interest of everyone's safety.

May I thank those parents who expressed an interest in taking the school forward with the Healthy Schools Standard. As a result I have arranged a meeting open to all interested parents, for Monday 26th February at 2 pm, at school where Jane Stevens, the LEA Healthy Schools Consultant, will be present. Jane will talk about the next step we could take.

I need to let you know that the Governing Body has recently received its Complaints Policy. This is now displayed in the entrance area. School dates for 2007-08 are also displayed. You may be interested to hear that the Easter Weekend in 2008 falls outside the school holidays. The school will be closed on Good Friday and Bank Holiday Monday (21st / 24th March) and then for the holidays 4th ? 18th April. As I mentioned the actual dates are displayed near the school office.

I would like to make special mention of the School Association. The Committee work tirelessly on behalf of the school and through their fundraising they have provided the school with numerous resources and with a variety of experiences such as the termly productions by M & M. The Association has now kindly agreed to support the school in its refurbishment of the library and kitchen. This will greatly enhance the learning opportunities for the children.

A number of parents have commented on the fact that the bus service has improved since Christmas. You may remember that in the early days of the new contract there were several issues but it appears these have been resolved. I mention this as one or two parents may now feel happier sending their child by bus.

We are in the process of updating some of our procedures. One is the taking of children?s photographs. As part of our evidence gathering we do occasionally take photographs of children participating in various activities. These are only displayed in the classroom and are not put on the school?s web site. Wherever possible we would seek parental approval but occasionally this may not be possible. In order to clarify the situation, may I leave it that unless we hear from you to the contrary, then we will assume that you are happy for photographs to be taken strictly for intended use only. If you would rather this not be the case please let you child?s class teacher know, preferably at Parent?s Consultations in March.

Thank you to everyone who has sent in shoes for the ?Blue Peter Appeal? as organised by the School Council. We still need more!

Lost property will be on display in the hall until the end of this week. Please come in an have a look through the items to see if there is anything that belongs to your child(ren).

Red Nose Day on Friday 16th March will be a Mufti Day and children are asked to bring in a donation of £1. In addition Red Noses will be on sale from 26th February at £1 each. There will be an afternoon of fun activities for the children on 16th March.

Just a quick reminder. Can we please ask you to send in any remaining ?Tesco Sport for Schools? Vouchers which you may still have at home. This is your last chance to send them in, as we have to submit all vouchers by the end of March at the latest.

Finally I have been contacted by the Aylesbury Music Centre with details of the Bucks County Council Music Scholarships. If you would like details and an application form please contact the school office.

Yours sincerely,

S. Blore
