1 Nov 2006 - November Newsletter
Dear Parent(s),
Newsletter - November 2006
You may be aware that since September the school bus service has been under a new contract. One result of this has been that the arrival and departure times have been inconsistent. We have made our misgivings known to the Local Education Authority who awarded the contract and who are responsible for monitoring it. Unfortunately our concerns have been ignored. As a consequence of the erratic timings we have asked the bus to pick up outside the gate at the end of the school day. I am aware that this may have added to the ?melee? at 3.15 pm and we are looking at possible improvements we could introduce. In the meantime I would like to remind parents that children should be met and taken from the class teacher. I have asked staff not to let children cross the road to meet parents. I am also experimenting with leaving the side gate locked until 3.15 pm as the area around the gate and the path into the school are becoming so congested that staff are finding it difficult to hand children over. My only concern is to ensure the safe dismissal of the children at the end of the day. It?s not perfect, I know, and we will be looking at ways to make it more effective.
The school football team began their defence of the league title in good style winning 2-1 against Stoke Mandeville Combined School. The squad was Toby Vinter, Alexander Brown, Sam Morton, Elliot Smith, Myles Coe, Archie Cuming-Wright, David Bergson, Dennis Kay, Rupert Kelley and William Anthem. Toby and Myles scored one goal each. Recorder club and choir have started up as well as ICT with Mrs. Shields. The School Council have been very active, planning to run a book sale, cake sale and Christmas Card Competition this term to fund wet playtime games for each classroom. Can you please send in any unwanted books you may have for the Book Sale and some money for the children to spend for this Friday. I would like to thank you all for your donations for Jeans for Genes. We collected over £160. Our Harvest collection amounted to well over £200. On Monday 6th the Reverend Andy Bell will be blessing the Christmas Shoeboxes, during his monthly assembly. I would like to thank you for your tremendous support for these causes.
The results of the Handwriting Competition can be viewed by parents and is displayed on the wall just inside the front entrance in the school.
