1 Jul 2008 - July Newsletter

Dear Parent(s),

Newsletter – July 2008

Unbelievably the school year is almost at an end.  I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the Year 6 children for all their various contributions to Whitchurch.  They have been a credit to the school, to themselves and to you, as parents.  We all wish them every success in their new schools.  I would like to thank their parents for all the support over the years and to wish them all, every happiness in the future.

September 2008 will see a few staff changes and the new class structure will be as follows:-

            Reception          -           Mrs Shephard

            Year 1               -           Mrs Brown

            Year 2               -           Miss Faulkner

            Year 3               -           Miss McCabe

            Year 4               -           Miss Turner

            Year 5               -           Mrs Hawkett

            Year 6               -           Miss Albrighton

One area I would like support, is in playing the piano to accompany hymns.  If any parent is able to help, please contact me.  The commitment would be Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings from .  We would be willing to offer a remuneration if required.  Whilst on the subject, I wondered if any parent would be interested in either running a choir or in taking the top recorder group.  Please contact the school office if you are able to help.

As you know the school received an Ofsted Inspection on Friday 27th June.  I am not in a position to publically inform parents of the result until after the report is published on the Ofsted website (approximately 18th July) but I am able to report that we were all delighted with the Inspector’s judgement.  Each child also nowadays receives a letter from the Inspector.

The school has also been nominated as one of three ‘worthy’ causes by Waitrose in Buckingham.  Apparently when you shop there you receive a token which you deposit in the box of the cause you would like to support.  I understand that the cause receiving the most tokens receives a share of £1,000. I mention this just in case you happen to be shopping in Buckingham!  On a similar line, we are looking at options for sponsoring a road crossing patroller, to be based at the school gate.  If by any chance any parent works for a company which might be interested in supporting such a worthwhile cause please contact me.  On the issue of road safety etc. the school will be running a Walk to School Week.  This will take place from Monday 7th to Friday 11th July.  Children who participate will be given stickers.  In October the school will be taking part in International Walk to School Month.  Further details will follow next term.

Thank you so much for all the, Box Tops, Tesco Computer and Sainsbury Active 8, vouchers that you have sent into school.  We have now ordered three new computers from Tescos but if you have any more vouchers please hand them in as soon as possible as we can still bank them for next year.  We will be sending off the Sainsbury vouchers, with our order, on Wednesday 9th July so we must have all these vouchers in school by then as no late vouchers are accepted.

During the summer break we are trying to complete a number of minor works projects including refurbishment of the toilets, a passage way alongside the hall and the creation of a PE storage area.

Before confirming future dates I would like to pass all our best wishes to Mrs Woodward, who is leaving to become Acting Head of Padbury School, Miss Rawlins-Smith, who is re-locating to Bath (and getting married) and to Marian Walker who, with her family, is moving to South Africa to work for the Thembalitsha Charity.  The school will be staying in contact with Marian as we already enjoy a link with the Charity.
