1 Mar 2008 - March Newsletter

Dear Parent(s),

Newsletter – March 2008

Every month I seem to refer to how busy the school is and March is no exception.  All the children will be taking part in ‘Take-A-Picture’ week at the end of term as well as in the annual Art Competition.  Children from Years 4, 5 and 6 will be taking part in the Area Cross-Country Event and there are still netball and football matches to play.  In addition, the children in the Reception Class are looking forward to inviting their grandparents into school and this week, Years 5 and 6 are performing ‘ Alice ’ the musical.  As far the production is concerned, we had to limit the size of the audience to 85, due to health and safety reasons.

Chris George from The Royal Latin Grammar School has asked me to mention that on 13th May at 4.15 pm there will be a Science lecture demo, given by TV scientist Jonathan Hare.  Mr Hare will look at the science behind a number of challenges he was set when he created BBC2 TV Rough Science.  If you would like to go, then please email Chris at cgeorge@bucksgfl.org.uk .

Once again this year, the School Association will be putting on their Summer Ball, the theme this year, I believe, is ‘The Moulin Rouge’.  The date for this event is June 28th.  This is always a super fundraising event and a great night out.  Tickets are now on sale through the school office, from Karen Smethurst or Jane Chenery.  The money the School Association raises allows the school to enhance the curriculum in many different ways, including Theatre Visits, ICT Hardware, Improvements to the Library, outside play equipment, to name but a few.  Please support this event as I know from experience it will be a great night and one you wouldn’t want to miss.

Congratulations to our Netball Team who won the High Five Netball tournament at Waddesdon CE School on Tuesday.  They will now go on to represent the Waddesdon family at the partnership finals on 12th June.

I would like to mention briefly the controversial subject of parking outside the school gates.  As I mentioned in my last newsletter, we are encouraging parents to use the recreation ground at the bottom of Ashgrove   Gardens .  I would like to thank those parents who do and reassure them that we will try to look at the possibility of providing a crossing patroller.  As you may know, the local PCSO was at the school on Monday.  Apparently she has stated that she will be returning and may well be placing parking tickets on cars wrongly parked.  Obviously I wouldn’t like that to happen to any parent, so I would suggest you take care.  On the issue of parking, the schools’ Healthy Schools’ Working Group has asked me to ask if there is anybody willing to reinvigorate the schools’ Travel Plan.  We did achieve Level 3 which allowed us access to central funding but unfortunately the plan has lapsed and it has been demoted to level 2.  However, the basis is there but it needs updating.  If you would be interested in forming a small group, please contact the school office.  The Travel Plan covers all aspects of travel, to and from school, issues of parking and really any safety issues affecting the children, parents and staff.

We are yet again collecting Tesco Sport, Sainsbury Sport and Tesco Computer Vouchers and would ask you to think of us when you are shopping and to collect your vouchers for our school.  Please ask family, neighbours and friends to collect on your behalf and remember to send them into school regularly, as on many occasions vouchers have been sent into school after the closing date.

I have the statutory responsibility of informing you of the School Access Plan and Disability Equality Scheme.  Please find them attached.
